Tawi-tawi has the lowest poverty incidence in Mindanao

Philippine Statistics Authority, with its annual Official Poverty Statistics revealed Tawi-tawi as the province with the least poverty incidence in Mindanao in 2015.

Tawi-tawi boasts 10.4% poverty incidence, 59.8% lower than the province in Mindanao with the highest poverty incidence, Lanao del Sur which belong to the same region ARMM. See the top 10 list below.

This was followed by Davao del Sur which economic capital is Davao City, the de facto capital of the island, and Misamis Oriental which capital is Cagayan de Oro City, the reigning city in Northern Mindanao.

Tawi-tawi was also the top 1 in the list last 2012 Poverty Incidence data. Accordingly, poverty incidence is the proportion of families/individuals with per capita income less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families/individuals.

Tawi-tawi’s poverty incidence dropped by 27.5% from 48.3 in 2009 to 20.8 in 2012. In 2006, Tawi-tawi’s poverty incidence was 50.6%.

Lanao del Sur is also the province with the highest poverty incidence in the country.
